Camp La-No-Che

Extravaganza is from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon, featuring eight exciting Treks. Scouts may choose a Trek and their set. Please see Trek descriptions for more infomration, and experience the Great Outdoor Adventure that Camp La-No-Che on the Leonard and Marjorie Williams Family Scout Reservation has to offer. Each Scout must attend as part of a Troop with adult leadership or attend with a parent/guardian.

Extravaganza 2012 Flyer

Daniel Boone Adventure: Features a Turkey shoot, wild game food tasting, archery, rifle, black powder and shotgun target shooting. Scouts will also get a brief Hunter’s Safety overview. The “Big Bang” finishes the weekend, as Scouts watch demonstrations of large caliber firearms. There is a limit of 40 Scouts for this Trek.

Cost is $68.00 per participant. ($2.00 discount of on-line registrations)

Aquatrek: Come enjoy swimming, water skiing, canoeing, kayaking and sailing during this fun filled weekend.  Safety Afloat, Safe Swim Defense and a Scuba demonstration will also be featured. (Scouts will get wet during this Trek)

Rambo.05: It’s back to basics as you hike and camp in the back woods of Camp La-No-Che.  Land navigation, Leave No Trace principles, star gazing, night navigation and Camouflage techniques are featured, during this unique trek. Scouts will also participate in a LNT project. (See equipment list)

Seekers of “K”: Adult Leaders this was designed for you!  Come learn new and exciting things about the Scouting program.  Various training will be offered such as Trek on Safely, Safety Afloat, Safe Swim Defense, and Intro to Outdoor Skills . Experience Alpine Tower, Project COPE, Team Building and Climbing.  (Adult Leaders Only)

Vertical Extreme: Feel like climbing?  This trek is for you, you’ll enjoy Bouldering, Climbing Tower, Low COPE, High COPE, and Alpine Tower. Team building and knots will round out your total Vertical Extreme experience. (Minimum age is 13yrs. With current BSA Physical)

Buckskin Trek: New to the Scouting program, if so this trek is for you!  Scouts will take a hike to the buckskin campsite, where they will enjoy fire building, first aid, cooking and basic intro of outdoor skills.  A demonstration by the SWAT Team, Crime Scene tech and DARE program training are featured.  To finish off the trek you’ll visit the pool, Archery and rifle range. (See equipment list)

Pathfinder: This trek starts off with a demonstration by the SWAT Team, Crime Scene tech and the DARE program. Scouts will then take a nature hike down one of the many trails of Camp La-No-Che.  The hike ends up at the pool for a nice refreshing dip.  A presentation on the Trail to Eagle followed up with Emergency Preparedness, First Aid and CPR training.   The “BIG BANG” at the Rifle range then finishes up this exciting trek.

Council Program Highlights

Registration for the 2013 National Jamboree is open!

Central Florida Council is building our contingent and for our size council we have limited space, so don’t wait.

We have been allocated 7 provisional Troops and 1 provisional Crew. Each Troop has 36 youth in them so it sounds like there will be plenty of space. However, we only have 288 youth slots available from a pool of several thousand scouts/venturers potentially applying. Don’t wait, go to the registration section and begin the process.

Summer Camp 2012 Staff

Summer Camp 2012 is filling up fast. If your troop or crew has not signed up for Summer Camp 2012 please go to www.camplanoche.com. Beginning in January 2012 we accept applications of interested Scouts and Scouters who wish to work on the Summer Camp 2012 Staff. We are currently accepting applications for all positions (program counselors and area directors). The minimum age to work Camp Staff 2012 is 15 years. We are also accepting applications for our Counselor in Training (C.I.T.) program for Scouts who are age 14. Although, we are accepting applications for all positions for Summer Camp 2012 we are specifically looking for:

• C.O.P.E. Directors (Age 21 or above.): Must be physically fit to participate in National Camp School in a week in May.
• A.T.V. Directors (Age 21 or above.): Must complete A.T.V. Safety Institute.
• Adventure Camp Instructors (Age 16-20.): Will staff C.O.P.E., Alpine Tower, Climbing, and A.T.V. Must complete training.

Super Weekend 2012

February 17-19, 2012 for all Venture Crews and Exploring Posts. Come enjoy an exciting weekend at Camp La-No-Che at the Leonard and Marjorie Williams Family Scout Reservation with Venturing Crews and Exploring Posts from all over the Central Florida Council. The cost is $32.00 per person, but if you register online you get a $2.00 discount. Registration deadline is February 10, 2012, register today.

Trainer’s Edge Course

February 18, 2012; 8:00am-5:00pm. E.D.G.E.- Explain, Demonstrate, Guide, Enable. The purpose of the Trainer’s Edge course is to provide and help develop the platform of skills of a trainer. This course also provides an opportunity to interact with participants and practice what you have learned. To insure you have a seat please register by Wednesday, February 15, 2012. The workshop will be held at the Central Florida Council Service Center (1951 South Orange Blossom Trail, Apopka, FL 32703). Registration is $10.00.

Eagle Scout Workshop

February 25, 2012. Star and Life Scouts (and parents) are invited to this workshop that will provide a guide to the Eagle Trail. The workshop will be held at the Central Florida Council Service Center (1951 South Orange Blossom Trail, Apopka, FL 32703). Registration is only $8.00. 2013 National Jamboree

The Central Florida Council is going to the 2013 National Jamboree and wants you to go along with us. With your sign-up you will become a Contingent participant for what will be the first National Jamboree at BSA’s newest high adventure base, “The Summit”.

Having completed our first 100 years of scouting at the 2010 National Jamboree, BSA embarks on its first Jamboree for the new century of Scouting and you’ll be there to celebrate with 44, 000+ Scouts/Scouters from across the country.

The Summit is a beautiful piece of property near Beckly, West Virginia acquired for the purpose of being home to BSA’s National Jamboree and to become BSA’s 4th National High Adventure Base.

Voice of the Scout

Guiding the future of the Boy Scouts of America with feedback, the BSA will be conducting the “Voice of the Scout’. This survey will be sent twice in 2012 to give scouts (over 14 years old), parents, and adult volunteers the opportunity to give constructive feedback that will improve your family’s Scouting experience. The first survey will be going out in March. Please complete the survey and help continue Scouting’s positive impact on the youth of our communities.

NASA Salute to Boy Scouting & Cub Scouting

Salute to Boy Scouting, February 18, 2012 and Cub Scouting, February 25, 2012 at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. Participants will have full access to KSC Visitor Complex shows and exhibits, enjoy a 3D IMAX space film, tour the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame, attend a private interactive briefing about NASA’s latest mission, and meet an Astronaut. Central Florida Council Cub Scout Legoland Day

March 3, 2012. Play your part as Cub Scouts fight fires at LEGO City Rescue Academy, conquer the Dragon coaster as Cub Scouts return to a time of knights and castles, feel like a Cub Scout giant as you walk through Miniland USA featuring incredibly detailed cities built out of millions of LEGO bricks and participate in the Ford Driving School,  Cub Scouts drive LEGO themed cars through city streets and earn their own driver’s license. Houston Astros Boy Scouts Day

March 3, 2012 at Osceola Heritage Park starting at 1:05pm. Come enjoy a Spring Training Game watching the Houston Astros vs. the Washington Nationals. Participate in the Parade of Packs and Troops, run the bases after the game, and earn a belt loop, pin, or merit badge. Booths will be covering cooking, collecting, baseball, good manners, weather, computer, and photography.

• What: Ability for Scouts to achieve unprecedented progress on the Trail to Eagle via intensive merit badge instruction and hard work offering six Eagle required merit badges [Citizenship in the Community, Nation & World, Communications, Family Life and Personal Management]. Each participant must take a minimum of 3 merit badges to qualify for participation.This event features all-you-can-eat “teenaged sized portions” and air conditioned areas throughout included (especially sleeping areas).The most incredible staff ever assembled is FREE!

• Who: First Class, Star and Life Rank Scouts; 13 to 17 years old (as of 6/17/2012)

• Bring: 100% official BSA uniform, plus typical summer camp gear. Official BSA clothes are worn during entire event (except swimming).

Participants: Please print and read the entire program guide (15 pages) and bring it with you to the encampment.

Take note -> Bring pages 13 and 14 (and if you registered via mail or at the Scout office, bring a c opy of page 15) of the participant guide, filled out, with you. Note several signatures are required on page 13 and are necessary for admittance to camp.

Take note -> Each participant must complete an interview with Steve Eisinger as their final step for admittance.  Towards that effort, they will be contacted by Steve Eisinger shortly following their registration using the information provided during registration. If participants have not heard from Mr. Eisinger within 7 days following their registration, please send him an e-mail at the address above.

Prerequisites are required in order to achieve maximum succes s at Eagle Encampment, which means participants will not leave the event with completed merit badges if the prerequisites are not properly and thoroughly completed. Two of the merit badges offered require 90 days worth of detailed documented work prior to check in while all merit badges offered required some level of prerequisite completion.

In terms of close-out procedures on June 22, participants will be provided with their completed efforts via a report from Troopmaster on their final day at Eagle Encampment which should be submitted to their unit’s Advancement Chairman. Blue cards will not be utilized.

National Youth Leadership Training (N.Y.L.T.) Winter Course

January 14-16 AND February 18-20, 2012

 Cost: $195.00 per participant.

Please carefully consider the Scouts/Venturers you send to NYLT — the amount of benefit a young person will get from this training is directly proportional to their level of maturity, attitude and focus. In order to attend Scouts and Venturers must meet the requirements listed below.

• At least 13 years old (scouts) – 14 years old (Venturers).
• At least First Class rank (scouts).
• Currently serving in a troop/crew position of responsibility.
• Previous long-term camping experience – full knowledge of basic cooking and knots/lashing very helpful.
• Be recommended/approved by Scoutmaster or Venturing Crew Leader (adult) and two (2) other adults.
• Participant must attend both weekends fully to receive a certificate of completion.

There are only 96 spaces available, so register early to guarantee your place.
